You can be an on-line literary critic!

Many of you have been quite vocal concerning your views of Hamilton's Mythology. As your first venue to English 9 Honors last summer, it is no wonder that a few of you felt rather overwhelmed!

You've had a chance to comment on To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies; here is your chance to comment on the titanic tome! The Amazon reviews were fairly repetitive and boring; what is your opinion? Be honest; have fun; BE APPROPRIATE! And, perhaps, you can give some credit to the stories you enjoyed!

Mythology took forever to read and only about half the stories were intresting. I also realized that all the good stories were the short ones and the boring ones dragged on for like twenty pages

My cousin has to read the entire Mythology book. I told her that if she read a story a day and read slowly it won't be that bad. I also agree with Erica Guerin, some of the longer stories were very "boaring".

I felt Mythology was the most boring and painful book I have ever had to read. I think that when reading it for school, it helps to make a chart and take notes, because it gets very confusing.

While I did like the Cupid and Psyche story, I thought most of Mythology was hard to understand. Some stories I had to read line by line with my SparkNotes close by just to understand what everyone was talking about! And even then I still had trouble. But once I understood the stories, it became easier to accept the book and find some good in it.

Once you get used to the stories just being plain and dry they are easier to read, but half the time I felt like I was reading a textbook. I wish the stories were written in storybook form because it would have made them more interesting and easier to follow. My friend had told me before I started that she liked the stories and they were interesting so my expectations were too high and in the end I was disappointed.

Mythology took me a long time to read. I like the short Mythology stories a lot better. Going over it in class made it so much easier to understand. I liked some of the stories, but I didn't understand many of them.

If you have three years of free time then you should try Mythology! once you get passed the beginning the actual stories should only take a few weeks but the first couple pages are a killer!

The introduction was probably the worst part of the story i read it like 10 times and still did not understand one thing about it... it was also long, boring, and pointless.

I agree with Zoe, making a chat did help. Also after reading each stroy if you write down what it was about it helps to look that over when studying instead of reading the story again.

Considering the amount of pages and how boring the book is, Mythology will always take a long time to read. Plus one usually starts to understand the book after reading it about one hundred times.

Since Hailton's Mythology was extremely long and indepth I found it easy to get distracted, but some familar stories kept my attention. Using post its and highlighting important points made the descriptive and advanced writing style easier to understand. As a whole the book had some enjoyable parts, but the rest was just a pain to read.

I used to love mythology, and then I read Edith Hamilton's book of mythology. that book has changed my mind.I don't like mythology as much as I used to. She pretty much made mythology a boring and an extremly lenghty subject. I would use this book as a bedtime book because after reading two pages, one could fall asleep because Hamilton rambles on about one subject for 15 pages. i do like the stories, but only when they are made understandable.

Throughout Edith Hamilton"s novel I found myself questioning every paragraph. At times the writing was hard to grasp and difficult to remain attentive to. Along with the stories, the writing was also quite difficult to understand. Although some stories were interesting others seemed tedious and boring. I am glad we eventually discussed the text in depth but I do not believe this book is a good independent summer reading book. Thanks to this novel I now feel intimidated by Mythology!

I normally enjoy reading the stories of gods and godesses, but this books COMPLETELY changed my mind. Some stories were interesting, but overall, I think that the book was completely boring. While reading the Trojan War I had a very hard time concentrating and actually fell asleep. However, some stories were good so I have to give Edith some props for that. :) All in all, I really wouldn't recommend this book to anybody just getting into mythology because it gets rather confusing at some points, and is more adult-oriented.

Reading the book was really frustrating but when we went over it in class some of the stories seemed pretty interesting its too bad that they are put in really boring text. If Edith Hamilton made the book more kid friendly or teenager friendly other than adults, like George said, it would be fine because we could understand the stories and read more than one page at a time without falling asleep. I think Edith Hamilton could have made the funny gods/goddesses stories more entertaining instead of being so serious.

Mythology was one of those book where you were so lost you had to put the book down once every 30 seconds. After I read a line and then read the next one I forgot what happened in the line before it.
