OK...this one might cause a little bit of a stir....

Yes , i think that Mde. Loisel is a dynamic character because she undergoes an important change through the course of the story. She learns a valuable lesson about working hard and not always getting what you want. I do not think that Rainsford is really a dynamic character because he did not learn a valuable lesson. From the beginning of the story, he said how he feels bad for jaguars and that animals have feelings. If he had said that he did not feel bad for animals then that would be different because he got a chance to see how it feels to be hunted.

I think that Rainsford is a dynamic character. From being hunted, he symbolically represents an animal. He says that he knows how an animal at bay feels. Since Rainsford isn't a huntee, but is now hunted, he experiances the fear that hunted animals have.

I do not think Mdme. Loisel is a dynamic character. While she does all of that hard work for ten years, she doesn't really learn anything at the end of the story. When she sees her friend, Mdme. Forestier, at the end of the novel, she comments on how pretty and slim she was, while Mdme. Loisel was fatter and not as young-looking. Even throught all she had gone through, Mdme. Loisel seems to not learn anything by the end of the story, not making her a dynamic characer.

i agree with Ambika that Rainsford is a dynamic character and with Cristelle that Mdme. Loisel is not a dynamic character. At the end Rainsford says that he is still a predator at bay and in the middle he says now he understands what the jaguars feel when they are being hunted. In the beginning he says to his friend that jaguars can not feel the fear but realizes at the end they really can. Mdme. Loisel i9s not a dynamic character because at the end when she is talking to Mdme. Forestier she blames her looks and why she has worked so hard on her. But really she did it to herself.

Yes, Mdme. Loisel does blame her looks on Mdme. Forestier when it really was her own fault, but she still learned how hard work is and that it doesnt always pay off. She is a dynamic character because she learned a lesson- she lost the necklace and had to work to pay it off and it made her life very dreary and unhappy. Although she may not be the nicest person by saying how her unhappy life was because of Mdme. forestier, she still learned about the consequences of her own actions.

So does this mean Rainsford will never hunt again?

I think that Rainsford will hunt again, but he probably won't hunt humans like General Zaroff. He likes to hunt and I think that this experiance has made him more interested in hunting. It was a competition between him and Zaroff on the island, and he won. So in a weird way, I think this would push a person like Rainsford to continue hunting knowing that he has won the most dangerous game. He probably feels that he can hunt any animal now that he has defeated Zaroff.

I think that both Mdme. Loisel and Rainsford are poor examples of dynamic characters. A dynamic character is supposed to undergo or experience a change over the course of the story. Mdme. Loisel is unthankful for what she has in the begining of the story and even though she works for repay her debt for 10 years she does not really show a dramatic change of heart. Mdme. Loisel never shows that she is truely thankful for her husband or what she has. Likewise, Rainsford is a hunter and after staying with a General that hunts humans he learns that there are some crazy people in the world. Even though he is almost hunted, I believe he will still countinue to hunt once he returns home. However, Rainsford does have a new outlook on how the prey feels while being chased down.

I believe Rainsford will continue to hunt. While he did learn from that experience, it only made him a better hunter. Also, it is his profession, and it might be somewhat difficult to give up one's profession that late in life. However, Rainsford may hunt less due to what had happened to him.

I also don't think Mdme. Loisel is a dynamic character. She is never thankful towards her husband or anyone else. She is selfish and only cares about herself and what others will think of her. Even though she stuggles for 10yrs, she doesn't even see how her pride has affected her appreciation for things.

i do not believe that Rainsford will hunt again because of what General Zaroff did to him. Like at the end he said that he still was an animal at bay and could not rest until he killed him. He also says in the middle now he knows what it must feel like. He was petrified of getting caught and he probably will not hunt again.

I agree with Ambika and Erica that Rainsford will hunt again because hunting is his life. He now knows how an animal at bay feels like so he did learn. Mde. Loisel did not change. She blames her friend for all the trouble her and her husband have worked for 10 years. She still has not learned her lesson she is not above everyone else in her class and she is the person who caused their trouble because she is also the person who lost the necklace and never asked her how much the necklace cost Mde. Foresteir. This is Kerry.

i don't think that Rainsford is a dynamic character because yes, its true that he was in the place of an animal and he learned how it feels, but he didn't change become of that. Rainsford will still continue to hunt. he may have a different opinion on what he's doing but that doesn't mean that he is a changed man.

So, is it better that he knows how an animal feels, believing that they can sense fear perhaps, and he STILL hunts them?
